Privacy Policy
Your privacy is fundamental to everything we build. Here's exactly how we handle your data.
Our Privacy Promise: TheKronometre is built on a client-side architecture. Your timing data, lap records, and timer sessions never leave your device. We do not collect, store, process, or sell any personal information. Period.
1Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how TheKronometre.com ("we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use our website and web application (the "Service"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and maintaining the trust you place in us.
TheKronometre operates as a fully client-side application. This means that all timing operations, data processing, and storage occur entirely within your web browser. Unlike most web services, we have deliberately architected our platform so that your usage data is never transmitted to, processed by, or stored on our servers.
2Information We Collect
We do not collect any personal information. Specifically, TheKronometre does not collect:
- Names, email addresses, phone numbers, or any contact information.
- Account credentials — we do not require registration or login.
- Your timing data — stopwatch measurements, lap records, countdown timer sessions, and exported CSV files are processed entirely in your browser.
- Location data, IP addresses (for user tracking), or device fingerprints.
- Payment information — the Service is free and does not process any transactions.
The only data that exists is what your browser stores locally on your device, under your full control.
3Local Storage & Cookies
TheKronometre uses your browser's localStorage API to save your preferences locally. This data is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to our servers. The following keys are used:
| STORAGE KEY | PURPOSE | DATA STORED |
|---|---|---|
krono-theme | Theme preference | "dark" or "light" |
krono-sound | Sound toggle state | "true" or "false" |
timer-history | Timer session log | Array of past timer sessions |
We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or any cookie-based tracking mechanisms. No cookies are set by TheKronometre. Third-party services loaded by the site may set their own cookies according to their respective privacy policies.
4How We Use Information
The locally stored preference data described above is used solely to:
- Remember your chosen visual theme (dark or light mode) so it persists between visits.
- Remember your sound preference so audio feedback remains consistent.
- Maintain your timer session history for your personal reference and CSV export.
This data is never used for advertising, profiling, analytics, or any purpose other than improving your immediate user experience.
5Data Retention
Since all data is stored in your browser's localStorage, retention is entirely under your control:
- Data persists until you clear your browser storage or clear site data.
- You can delete timer history at any time using the "Clean" button in the Timer History section.
- You can export your data as CSV before clearing it.
- No backup of your local data exists on our servers — once cleared, it is permanently deleted.
6Third-Party Services
TheKronometre integrates certain third-party services for website operation. Each may collect limited, anonymized technical data as described below:
- Hosting Provider — Our website is hosted on a cloud platform that may collect standard server access logs (IP address, user agent, request URL) for security monitoring and abuse prevention.
- Font Provider — We load typefaces from a third-party font CDN for a consistent reading experience. The provider may log font requests for operational purposes.
We do not use any advertising networks, social media tracking pixels, heat mapping tools, session recording software, or marketing analytics platforms.
7Children's Privacy
TheKronometre does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under the age of 13. Since we do not collect any personal data at all, our Service is inherently compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar international regulations.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has somehow provided personal information through our Service, please contact us and we will take steps to address the issue.
8Data Security
Our client-side architecture is our strongest security measure: data that is never transmitted cannot be intercepted, breached, or leaked. All timing data, preferences, and session history remain exclusively in your browser's local storage.
The Service is delivered over HTTPS, ensuring that all communication between your browser and our servers is encrypted during page load. After the initial load, the application operates entirely offline-capable with no further server communication required.
9Your Rights
Because we do not collect personal data, many traditional data rights (access, rectification, portability) are already fulfilled by default. You maintain full control over your data at all times:
- Right to Access — All your data is visible in your browser's localStorage. You can inspect it via your browser's Developer Tools.
- Right to Export — Use the CSV export feature to download your timer history and lap records at any time.
- Right to Delete — Clear all data by using the "Clean" function or clearing your browser data.
- Right to Opt Out — Since we don't track you, there is nothing to opt out of. No tracking = no opt-out needed.
10Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technologies, or legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
Because we do not collect email addresses, we cannot notify users individually of policy changes. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your privacy.
